Our commitment

The Spelling Alliance of Ireland CLG is committed to making this website accessible to as many people as possible, including disabled people and people who use assistive technologies. Accessibility is particularly important to us because communication access, inclusion and meaningful participation are central to our work.

Accessibility standard

We aim to design and maintain this website in line with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 Level AA. This is an aim rather than a claim of formal certification.

Accessibility features

• Readable typography and comfortably sized body text.
• Colour contrast checked against Level AA thresholds.
• Responsive layouts that adapt to different screen sizes.
• Keyboard-accessible navigation, links, forms and controls.
• Visible keyboard focus indicators.
• Visible form labels, required-field information and clear validation messages.
• Meaningful alternative text for content images.
• Clear and descriptive link and button text.
• Layouts that do not rely on colour alone to communicate meaning.
• Restrained motion that respects reduced-motion preferences.

Images

Meaningful photographs and images are given descriptive alternative text where appropriate. Decorative imagery is kept from creating unnecessary screen-reader content. People are not identified by name in alternative text unless this is necessary and appropriate.

Forms

Website forms are intended to use visible labels, provide clear validation and error information, work by keyboard, and remain usable across desktop and mobile devices.

Documents and PDFs

Some downloadable documents, including older policy submissions or documents supplied by third parties, may not be fully accessible in every format. If you have difficulty accessing a document, please contact us. We will provide help or an alternative accessible version where reasonably possible, although we may not be able to convert every historic document immediately.

Known accessibility limitations

We continue to review and improve the accessibility of this website. A formal independent accessibility audit has not yet been completed, so there may be accessibility issues we have not yet identified. We welcome feedback about any barriers you encounter.
